JOBS NEWS: New general manager of sustainability for Coles 

Brooke Donnelly has been appointed as the general manager of sustainability at Coles, starting 3 October, to support the implementation of circular economy activities across its supply chain. Ms Donnelly has 25 years of experience, including her most recent role as chief executive officer of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO)

She said of her time at APCO: “The last five and a half years have been a blast, congratulations on achieving real change on how we deliver a circular economy for packaging here in Australia and within our ANZPAC region.”

The ANZPAC Plastics Pact is a collaboration between over 100 member organisations across Oceania moving towards a circular economy for plastic. 

Coles recently announced that it will trial banning plastic produce bags across its stores in the ACT for one year from the middle of September. Mesh bags will be available for purchase as a replacement for plastic bags. 

Brooke Donnelly has been appointed as the general manager of sustainability at Coles, moving from the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation.

Multiple new business leaders for Arcadis 

Global design and consultancy organisation Arcadis has announced new appointments to its APAC transport planning team. Cindy Williams will be the new sales director, with over 20 years’ experience in government and consulting services. Nicole Vukic will be national business leader for transport planning and advisory, with more than 20 years’ experience in the public and private sectors. 

Michael Downing joins as business leader for project management, construction management, and independent assurance services. Mr Downing was previously interim chief executive officer for Asia Pacific for Blue Visions Consulting’s project services group. 

Mr Downing said: “It’s an exciting time to be in infrastructure project delivery. Investment is at an all-time high.”

Michael Downing has joined Arcadis as a business leader for project management, construction management, and independent assurance services.

New team members for McGregor Coxall

Matthew Moore and Owen Richards have joined architecture and planning firm McGregor Coxall in its Brisbane Studio. 

Mr Moore, a landscape architect, is joining as an associate, with previous experience at Hassell, Queensland University of Technology, and Vee Design

Mr Richards has been appointed as global environment leader, bringing with him experience as founder of SOMe Engineering Consultants, manager of sustainable development and water at Arcadis, and sustainable water systems technical practice leader at AECOM.

Matthew Moore and Owen Richards have joined architecture and planning firm McGregor Coxall in its Brisbane Studio. 

Hassell makes new appointments 

Caroline Stalker has been made principal architect at Hassell’s Brisbane studio. She has 34 years in projects around Australia, the UK, and South East Asia. She previously worked at Arup, Archipelago Architecture & Urban Design, and Architectus

“Hassell has an incredible breadth of skills and depth of knowledge and talent, and I am excited to be collaborating with the team and clients to design better cities.”

Graham Lowe, who specialises in health projects, has been made associate at the firm. He has been in the company for seven years, after moving from Jackson Architecture. He has also worked at McKerrell Lynch Architects and Charles Arnold & Associates

Another new associate on the list is Elizabeth Nel, after previously holding the position of senior architect. She previously worked at The NRA Collaborative and Cox Architecture

Jaclyn Sun has also been made associate, having been climbing the ranks for three years. She was previously also at Cox Architecture

Jonathan Irawan has been made associate, computational design lead, at the firm. He has been at the firm for four years, and previously worked for Cox Architecture as well.

New head of advocacy for Cannon-Brookes’ non-profit Boundless 

Nicky Ison has started a position as head of direct advocacy at Boundless – a non-profit working towards building Australia as a renewable energy leader. She was previously energy transition manager of WWF Australia, and before that founding director of the Community Power Agency.

Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes and wife Annie founded the non-profit late last year. It’s supercharged by a $1.5 billion green fund of their own personal wealth: $1 billion of the fund will be spent on for-profit investments such as through Mr Cannon-Brookes’ private investment company Grok Ventures, and the remainder will be spent on philanthropic projects such as Boundless. 

Alongside five employees, it’s headed by Eytan Lenko with other staff including Katerina Kimmorley who is a board member at the NSW department of planning and environment, a non-executive director at Allume Energy, and a committee member of climate tech venture capital fund Investible

The non-profit helped organise Canberra’s recent National EV Summit on 19 August at Hotel Realm (where Mr Cannon-Brookes was a speaker), attended by the likes of Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen; Tesla chair Robyn Denholm;NSW Treasurer and Energy Minister Matt Keane; and Volkswagen chief executive Paul Sansom

Speaking of cars, Jan Gurander will step down as Volvo Group deputy chief executive in December after eight years at the company, and his other managerial assignments will be distributed to other board members. President and chief executive Martin Lundstedt said that Mr Gurander has made important contributions to the company’s strategic direction related to sustainability. 

Goeff Ashmore has been made an associate at transport, commercial and urban realm design consultancy Maynard, after being with the firm for more than four years. 

Anna Hendricks has started a new position as business development associate of climate solutions at consultancy South Pole. She’s left a role as engagement lead at the Green Building Council of Australia, and previously worked for the United Nations Association of Australia

Harriet Scandol has stepped down as senior climate change policy advisor to the British High Commission in Canberra, and will take on the role of energy and minerals officer with the Central Land Council in Alice Springs later this year.
