About the role

We are looking for a part time policy enthusiast to assist with implementing a range of development, consultation, coordination and advocacy opportunities to advance a sustainable built environment. You will work closely with the Executive Director to ensure ASBEC meets its strategic objectives. You will also work collaboratively across the ASBEC network and beyond to promote positive policy change.

This is a part-time role that can be based from anywhere in Australia. You may be required to travel interstate during the year.

Responsibilities

  • Engagement with an extensive stakeholder network on sustainability issues including: decarbonising buildings, cities and infrastructure, resilience and adaptation, energy efficiency, regulation/codes/standards, planning and procurement.
  • Managing the membership of stakeholder groups, including coordinating meetings, minute-taking, and recording progress against deliverables.
  • Represent ASBEC in key meetings, committees, consultation processes forums and other events.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with government, industry, non-profit organisations and academic stakeholders.
  • Assist the Executive Director in development and advocacy of evidence based policy that supports strategic priorities, including writing submissions, participating in consultation processes and committees.
  • Identify, develop and implement policy campaigns at all levels of government.

Required skills and experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field such as policy, sustainable development, program management.
  • Over 5 years direct experience in government or advocacy related positions.
  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written communication.
  • Adept at listening to others and using judgment to adjust communication style.
  • Autonomous and proactive to plan and prioritise tasks to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Strong networking skills and the ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Flexible to adjust to changing conditions and demands.
  • Results focussed and strong attention to detail.

Our membership consists of industry and professional associations, non-government organisations and government observers who are involved in the planning, design, delivery and operation of our built environment. ASBEC’s mission is to provide a peak collaborative forum for organisations who champion a sustainable future through policy, engagement, and advocacy, through:
