Aussie architecture firm BVN is bringing its acclaimed, New York City design initiative, re-ply, to Australia — showcasing salvaged plywood, used to board up the city during a Black Lives Matter demonstration, turned to pop-up art, furniture and architecture.
In the days that followed the demonstration, plywood became a canvas for protest and street art and despite once being destined for landfill, has now become a message of its own thanks to BVN’s New York-based design team, Nikita Notowidigdo, Nick Flutter and Bill Dowzer
Beginning as cost-effective and recycled “kit-of-parts” for outdoor dining, the initiative has grown to appear in over 30 installations across New York City including the Chelsea Flower Show; Rockefeller Ice Rink Pop-Up and the Meatpacking District Outdoor Dining Festival.
Re-ply will appear in Australia this summer to play a similar role as it did overseas, helping the city embrace al fresco dining and co-working as it emerges from lockdown.
